Statement
The new images are a reinterpretation of a painting that was done in 1994 titled “Faces”. It was an endeavor at drawing faces. It was an attempt at manifesting the structural features of faces with the aim of rendering what was in the mind at the time materializing on canvas.
Thirty years later instead of focusing on the literal expressions of the facial features, in these new pieces I seek to emphasize the symbolism in the absence of such facial features and yet suggest what faces must be attached to these costumes.
The paintings have evolved to be a lively cabalistic tree of colors with a rebirth of fresh experiences and research. Previous works were about layering and re-layering of juxtaposed collage material and non-painterly present potential, while these new scenes represent the balance between past and present.
